Ready to Take the First Win at the Nürburgring | Hyundai N

After taking a double class podium in 2019, our team returns to the Nürburgring 24 Hours aiming to take our first win from the famously challenging and unpredictable event.

Our team will run two Customer Racing-built TCR cars at the endurance race – the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR – which is set to take place on September 24-27.

The 2020 edition of the race adds an extra element to the challenge; postponed from its original spring date, drivers and teams will now race in darkness for several hours longer around the 25km circuit. The famously changeable Eifel weather is almost certain to play a role in the weekend’s action.

Team Principal Andrea said:

The Nürburgring 24 Hours is always one of the most challenging races of the season, and this year it will be even tougher for everyone as it is later in the year. In our team, we have all the ingredients to be able to win the class.

Seven strong pilots

An experienced and talented driver line-up will pilot our two-car entry. Manuel Lauck will race stints in both the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR. Lauck has competed in the TCR class for our team for the past two seasons, and boasts considerable experience of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

In the i30 N TCR he will be joined by WTCR driver Luca Engstler, who has won regional and national series in Europe and Asia with our car. TCR Germany regulars Hari Proczyk, who returns for a second N24 Hours with our team, and Anti Burri complete the line-up.

More familiar faces to our team will compete in the Veloster N TCR, with Marc Basseng and Moritz Oestreich returning for a second year. Peter Terting, who competed for the past two years in the i30 N TCR and set the fastest lap in class in 2019, is set to join them in his first N24 Hours outing in our Veloster.

The event remains a key date in the season for our team, as it is an opportunity to showcase the performance and reliability of our TCR cars. With a pair of strong entries, we hope to overcome the disappointment of 2019, where we led for long periods of the race only to finish second and third in class.

We are hopeful of being able to add to the story of Hyundai and N at the Nürburgring. We have an excellent driver line-up for the event, and the performance of the i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR is undoubted, as we have seen several times both on the Nordschleife and in TCR series around the world. However, we have experienced how unpredictable this race can be, so we take nothing for granted.
