Title triumphs in TCR Germany | Hyundai N

In an impressive repeat of the 2019 season, our i30 N TCR customers have scooped the 2020 teams’ and drivers’ titles in TCR Germany.

Hyundai Germany-supported Hyundai Team Engstler have once again taken the top honour in the drivers’ championship, this time with Finnish racer Antti Buri. In his first season competing with both the team and the i30 N TCR, Buri took four wins – the most of any driver on the grid – at Hockenheim, Red Bull Ring, Lausitzring and the final round in Ochersleben.

He secured the title with a dominant victory in Race 1, which he started from pole position, followed by a podium finish in Race 2. Buri had started eighth on the partially reversed grid and came through the field to finish in third, marking his fifth consecutive top-three finish.

Teams’ title for HP Racing International

Fellow i30 N TCR competitor Hari Proczyk had been his main rival for the title, with the Austrian winning three times during the course of the season. Although Proczyk finished in second ahead of Buri in the final race, the ground lost in the championship fight was too much to make up.

As consolation, Proczyk and teammate Jan Seyffert claimed the teams’ title for HP Racing International. In his maiden season with the i30 N TCR, Seyffert powered to his first win in TCR Germany in a 1-2 for the team in Race 1 at Hockenheim.

There were also race wins for Hyundai Team Engstler drivers Nico Gruber and 2019 WTCR winner Norbert Michelisz, who competed at the Nürburgring in August in a Hyundai Germany-backed VIP guest car.

In total, our i30 N TCR customers won 10 of the 14 races in TCR Germany’s 2020 season.

Customer Racing Operations Leader Andrew said: “It has been another very strong season for our i30 N TCR customers in TCR Germany. To come away with both drivers’ and teams’ title for the second consecutive year shows the performance of the i30 N TCR, of course, but also the consistency of the everyone involved with running the cars.”
