The Best of The Two Entries Took Second in class

The pair of Hyundai Motorsport-built cars finished an impressive second and fourth position in the class of treacherously wet conditions. The strong performance showcased both the pace and balance of the i30 N TCR. As the i30 N TCR is based on the high-performance i30 N, Hyundai improves and upgrades the high-performance N vehicle by applying the data and know-how from the experience of the endurance race.

Through The Annual Increasing Ranking

Hyundai demonstrates high-performance technology. Hyundai ranked overall 90th when taking on the 24 Hours Nürburgring race in 2016 with the i30 body and i30 N powertrain. With i30 N, Hyundai ranked 50th last year which raised expectations for the future of the high-performance line. This year, we finished 35th overall proving the performance and reliability of the car.

Engineer from Namyang R&D Takes Part as Driver

in The 24 Hours Nürburgring Race

An engineer from Hyundai's Namyang R&D Center participated in the race as a driver for the second consecutive year, to gain real-world experience directly contributing to the technological development of N. This resulted in cars made by engineers with real driving experience. Additionally, the race served as a testbed to verify the driving performance and durability before the start of mass production.

Under the slogan ‘Feel the feeling’, Hyundai is developing high-performance vehicles that customers can resonate with emotionally. Using the data and experience we’ve gathered in this race, we will develop fun-to-drive vehicles that will deliver racing track fun to customers during their everyday driving.

Hyundai i30 N Completes the Grueling 24 Hours Nürburgring Race

In 2017, Hyundai Motorsport participated in the 24 Hours Nürburgring Race with two i30 N developing cars. These two entries competed in the SP3T class for 1.6 to 2.0-liter turbocharged engines. The cars, No. 92 and No. 95, completed 135 laps and 105 laps respectively during the 24-Hour Race period without any technical difficulties. The only setback was an accident to the rear of car No. 95, that required repair.

“The 24-Hour Race at the Nürburgring was a real success for us. The two i30 N entries completed the race without any technical issues and we are extremely happy with the performance and durability of the cars,” said Albert Biermann, Executive Vice President and Head of Vehicle Test & High-Performance Development at Hyundai Motor Company.

The High-Performance N Model Comes Face-to-Face with “The Green Hell”

In 2016, for the first time, Hyundai Motor participated in the 24 Hours Nürburgring race (officially known as the 44th ADAC Zurich 24-Hour Race) held in Germany from May 26th to 29th, with all competing cars successfully reaching the finish line. The grueling race is known for pushing vehicles to the limit, and it spurred the development of our high-performance N models. The race was especially significant as the previous generation i30 vehicles competing in the SP3T class were equipped with the same 2.0-liter turbo engine being developed for adoption in the high-performance N.

By completing the race we proved just how well the engine performs. Furthermore, a wealth of race data enabled us to take our high-performance engine technology to an even higher level. Albert Biermann, Head of Vehicle Testing & High Performance Development said, “This race was a meaningful event that gave us important key insights into the development of our first model of high-performance N, and we will do our best to develop a car that not only offers excellent performance but also brings drivers the fun of driving.”
