2019 FIA World Touring Car Cup Champion!

#keeppushing #oneteamonewinHyundai i30 N TCR driver Norbert Michelisz secured the WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cuptitle after a dramatic finale weekend at the WTCR Race of Malaysia.

Norbert Michelisz

2019 WTCR Champion

I am so happy to be able to say I am the WTCR World Touring Car Cup winner. It is such a fantastic feeling after such a tense day. From the start of the weekend the i30 N TCR was really fast, but the mixed conditions for the races still made it very challenging. Though it is a drivers’ title it has been won with the help of the whole team. Without their work, and the performance of the car it would not be possible. Gabriele Tar-quini was one of the first people to congratulate me once we crossed the line. To follow him as the WTCR winner is amaz-ing for me and especially great for the whole BRC Racing Team and the Hyundai Motorsport Customer Racing depart-ment who are responsible for building the i30 N TCR.

Andrea Adamo

Hyundai Motorsport Team Director

I could not be more proud to say we have a second BRC Racing Team-run Hyundai i30 N TCR driver as WTCR –FIA World Touring Car Cup winner in two years of racing. Norbert has obviously been great, and fully deserves to be on top of the podium after an incredibly close season. To clinch the title he needed a strong weekend in Malaysia under pressure, and he did exactly what was asked of him. For him to have won at five different circuits, as radically different as the Nordschleife and Vila Real, shows how versatile the i30 N TCR package is. It also shows the car can cope with anything the WTCR season –or any other TCR series –can come up with, and finish the year with a superb result.

The i30 N TCR

The creation of the i30 N TCR represents Hyundai Motorsport’s first step into circuit racing, as well as its entrance into one of the fastest- growing categories in motorsport. The design phase of our TCR project began in September 2016,with our first complete test car up and running in April 2017.

From the first time I tested the i30 N TCR, it was clear that it had a very strong engine. So, to step in as a test driver and find out that the engineers had done such a good job was very encouraging. The entire package is very strong, which says a lot about the strengths of the i30 N road car that the TCR design it is based on.

In addition to the WTCR, there is an increasing number of regional and national series that run a similar sprint race format for TCR, and many of Hyundai’s customers have already chosen i30 N TCR for its performance.

In 2018, up to eight i30 N TCR vehicles participated in TCR Europe, winning five of the first ten races. Hyundai customers are also running in TCR Italy, Germany, and the UK, as well as participating in the Pirelli World Challenge in the USA, where they won two championships.

Based on The i30 N

For the first time, we are opening our new TCR Racecar to the public. Based on the street-legal New Generation i30 N in line with TCR regulations, the i30 N TCR is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine connected to a 6-speedsequential gearbox and is fitted with a 100-litre fuel tank.
