24 April 2019 - BRC Racing Team has high hopes for the Race of Hungary, the second round of the 2019 WTCR – FIA World Touring Car Cup season, taking place near Budapest this weekend.
The team is hungry to add to its collection of points with a consistent performance around the Hungaroring with the Hyundai i30 N TCR.
Last time out at the Race of Morocco, the first round of the season, Gabriele Tarquini was able to power his car to victory in the reverse-grid second race. As his title defence continues, he's positioned third in the drivers’ standings with teammate Norbert Michelisz in 12th position. BRC Hyundai N Squadra Corse also finished third in the teams’ battle.
Both BRC Hyundai N LUKOIL Racing Team drivers endured a difficult weekend and suffered mechanical misfortunes in Marrakech. The team is currently 10th in the standings with Augusto Farfus and Nicky Catsburg 14th and 18th respectively in the drivers’ classification.
BRC Racing Team now turns its focus to the Hungaroring, which has proved happy hunting ground in the past: in the 2018 edition, Tarquini and home hero Michelisz occupied the top two steps of the Race 3 podium. Michelisz currently holds the WTCR lap record of the 4.381km circuit after an impressive lap in last year’s qualifying.
Action at the 2019 Race of Hungary begins with a free practice session on Friday evening. Saturday features a full schedule with a second practice session, qualifying, and Race 1 (12 laps). Sunday will feature the second qualifying session, the 12-lap Race 2 and the 15-lap Race 3.
