Pushing limits with i30 N Project C

Project C was created to intensify the i30 N experience. With added lightness and even more responsive handling, we’re giving more smiles to our most demanding drivers. Its strong exterior and interior design sits at 50 kg lighter (officially 50.004 kg) and 6 mm closer to the road. Inspired by motorsport, the i30 N is our first-ever high-performance car to wear the N badge and debuted in 2017 to rave reviews and multiple awards. Built on the i30 five-door, it was developed from the ground up to deliver maximum fun-to-drive in everyday life on the road as well as on the track.

i30 N Project C

N is our emotional expression for dedicated drivers, and Project C is its truest expression yet. Why the letter C? C stands for the Area C high-performance test track at Hyundai’s Namyang R&D Center, known as the birthplace of N. C also stands for Hyundai’s first ever use of carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body parts in a road car. And it represents the center of gravity—Project C is lowered 8.8 mm in comparison to i30 N’s 275-PS specification. These three Cs combine to create the captivating performance car.

i30 N Project C’s unique specifications include clearly visible carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) body parts lacquered smooth to show its perfect carbon fiber weave. The front splitter, rear diffuser, bonnet, and N-branded side sills are all made from CFRP, making the special-edition model not just lighter but tighter to the tarmac at speed while also being stunning to look at. Despite featuring a larger frontal area and standing lower to the ground, the Project C drag coefficient of 0.32 remains the same as on the i30 N. Meanwhile, dedicated aerodynamic touches placed high and low also contribute to an exhilaratingly quicker but even steadier drive for confident curve slicing.

Take a look inside to see an interior full of Alcantara® highlights, most noticeably around the steering wheel, handbrake, and manual gearshift. Like many of the changes inside the car, the brushed aluminum billet shift knob—shaped like a pistonhead—combines functionality and design, fitting your hand perfectly for short, precise shifts. The seat belts are colored Deep Orange to match the brake calipers and other Project C details, like the completely new Sabelt bucket seats’ stitching and stripes and the steering wheel’s drive mode and N-mode thumb paddles. A XX/600 badge on the passenger side shows the true exclusiveness of this limited-edition model.

i30 N Project C

Like the i30 N, i30 N Project C was tested in Area C, a part of the Namyang R&D Center specializing in high-performance vehicle testing. The construction of the track was carried out entirely by car-loving N-gineers who benchmarked world-renowned race tracks.

In Area C, the High-speed Handling Track in particular pays homage to the Nürburgring, with sections to test extreme cornering during acceleration or braking, along with other challenging features inspired by the unforgiving original. The track’s high-speed corners and varied elevations serve as an excellent foundation for testing and developing.

With Project C, Hyundai pushes the limits of i30 N to provide an all-new experience as well as pure dynamic and responsive fun.
